Alpinestars Tech 3
If you have been riding in the dirt, you are aware of the different brands that protect the rider's feet. Riding on two or even four wheels can get you into places where you need protective gear that you can count on. Alpinestars understands this and they strive to give you quality; this is the same for their Alpinestars Tech 3 boots.
The Tech 3 is one of the multiple high tech and high performance boots for motocross and off-road available from Alpinestars. For 2011, there is a new design that comes complete with improved performance and comfort and at a reasonable price. There are 4 color available (white, black, gray and black/red) with sizing running from 5 to 16 US (38 -52 EURO). Retailing for $199.95, these are boots that you want on your feet while riding who knows where. By the way, the colors noted are what Alpinestars.com shows but you can also find them in camo, gray/white and black/white too.
Alpinestars has been providing quality riding boots for years. The Alpinestars Tech 3 for 2011 has the latest technology incorporated into the boot. You will find outer action leather upper with an extended gaiter to stop water from getting inside the boot. A strong reinforced leather plate runs along the back of the boot while a calf plate provides good support and side contact. Alpinestars patented ankle brace provides a shock absorbing padding for the ankle which seems to be a hit with many riders.
On the inside of the Alpinestars Tech 3 you'll find an instep that is stitched for good support and the inner side of the boot is reinforced and then covered with a thick suede material. In addition, on the internal and the outside, plate guards are found along the side as well as in the toe box area. To support your feet, there is a removable anatomic foot bed that can be replaced if necessary.
To keep your feet contained in the Tech 3 boots, there are 4 buckles that have a quick release and locking system that are made from injected techno-polymer. These buckles have every intention of working great but for some reason they seem to stick. If they do, take them back to where you bought them and get them replaced.
On the outside of the boot, the top of the boot can be "sealed" with a Velcro strap to help keep it securely on your leg and foot. To give you a good footing, no pun intended, the Alpinestars high grip rubber (double the density) compound creates a contoured tempered steel shank which is over injected inside of the assembly insole. The black and brown (camo) colors are available with a gripper "All-Terrain" sole.
Overall, Alpinestars has given motocross riders another great boot. They break in easy, offer substantial support around the ankle and protection over the foot and calf areas. The boots can also accommodate knee and shin protective guards and if you use these (I hope you do) you may want to get the next size up. If you are looking for a great boot at a good price, the Alpinestars Tech 3 is the boot for you.
